The short answer: Spend the first day finding your weak spots, the next four days on one topic each (signs, right-of-way, numbers and penalties, licence rules), and the last two days on mixed practice exams until you score well above 80% on both signs and rules.
Short daily sessions work better than one long night of cramming. Everything linked below is free and needs no sign-in; a free account lets you save your scores and see which categories you miss most.
Day 1: Get your baseline
Take Mock Exam 1 without looking anything up. Don’t worry about the score. Write down the topics you missed; they are your study list for the week.
Day 2: Road signs
Read the road signs lesson, then the Signs section of the MTO Driver’s Handbook. Finish with the road signs practice test.
Day 3: Lights, markings and right-of-way
Work through the right-of-way lesson. Pay attention to all-way stops, left turns and pedestrian crossovers. Then take Mock Exam 2.
Day 4: Numbers and penalties
Make a one-page list of numbers: following distance, parking distances, headlight distances, alcohol limits and suspension lengths. The demerit points lesson covers the points table. Take Mock Exam 3.
Day 5: Your licence rules
Read the G1 rules lesson until you can list every condition from memory. Then take the rules of the road practice test.
Day 6: Mixed practice
Take Mock Exam 4 and Mock Exam 5. For every miss, read the explanation and the handbook section it links to. Aim for at least 90% so you have a margin on test day.
Day 7: Review and get ready
Retake the exam you scored lowest on, check the signs and rules sections separately, and read what’s on the G1 test so you know what to bring. Get a good night’s sleep.
Short on time?
If you only have two or three days, do Day 1, then Days 2 and 4 together, then Day 6. Signs, numbers and the G1 rules cause the most lost marks.
