How we write and check our questions

Where our content comes from, and how to tell us when something’s wrong.

Who makes this site

Ontario G1 Driver’s Test Prep is made by ChowChow Labs, an independent studio in Toronto. We are not a driving school and we are not connected to the Ministry of Transportation or DriveTest. Ontario G1 Driver’s Test Prep is a study aid. It is not the official Ontario G1 knowledge test, it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of Ontario or the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), and practice scores don't guarantee you'll pass. Always study the official MTO Driver's Handbook.

Where our content comes from

  • The Official MTO Driver’s Handbook on ontario.ca is our main source for rules, signs and numbers.
  • DriveTest and other ontario.ca pages are our sources for test format, fees and licensing steps.
  • Questions, explanations, lessons and diagrams are written in our own words. We don’t copy other prep sites’ question banks or wording.

How each question is checked

  • Each question is tied to a specific handbook section, which is linked next to its explanation.
  • Numbers (distances, points, suspension lengths, ages) are checked against the current handbook, and the explanation says why the answer is right and what the common mistake is.
  • Where the handbook gives safety advice rather than a legal rule, we try to say so instead of presenting advice as law.
  • The whole bank (12 mock exams and 8 theme quizzes, 400 questions) was last reviewed in October 2026. We recheck it when the handbook changes.

Our questions have not yet been reviewed by a licensed Ontario driving instructor. If an instructor reviews them, we’ll name them here, and only after the review has actually been done.

Report an error

Every public question has a Report an error link. You can also email chowchowbuy@gmail.com with the question number and, if you can, a link to the handbook section. We check every report against the handbook and fix confirmed errors.

Corrections log

  • October 22, 2026: Replaced two questions whose details we couldn’t confirm in the current handbook (a railway crossing number tab and a school bus loading zone sign) with questions on rules the handbook states.
  • October 22, 2026: Reworded about 30 explanations and answers so they explain each rule in our own words instead of repeating handbook sentences.
  • October 22, 2026: Reorganized the bank into 12 mixed mock exams and 8 theme quizzes, with harder questions at the end of each.
  • October 22, 2026: Reworded the answer to a question about emergency vehicles (Q160) to match the handbook: pull to the right, clear of intersections, and stop.
  • October 22, 2026: Clarified that our mock exams are 20-question practice exams, not a copy of the real G1 test, which has separate signs and rules sections.
  • October 22, 2026: Moved a question about how to apply the brakes (Q051) from the Right-of-Way category to Safe Driving.
